I am sure I can fix your problem. You like me, and many people dislike the "Mac Gamma" setting in the monitors preferences. Using Colorsync you can calibrate your monitor for "PC gamma" and it gives a look that has more contrast and give a sharper image IMHO. I've been using this setting for years.
